Vehicle Maintenance Rules

The Landlord at So Make It believes that the car park is to be used only for parking, but we have managed to negotiate to be allowed to maintain our cars as long as we comply with the following:

1. Out of hours only

The landlord enforces a ‘no works outside’ rule on the garages around us. Although he turns a blind eye to minor work, we will annoy our neighbours if we are seen to not be following the same rule (who will then complain to the landlord). Work should only be carried out on cars outside of the regular working week – 9 to 5, Monday to Friday.

2. Dry work only

Nothing that could spill; no oil changes or top ups, no brake or steering fluids, no coolant or windscreen wash. No debates or negotiations.

3. Axle stands only on the concrete

Cars must not be jacked up or placed on axle stands anywhere other than on the concrete outside the space. Given we must not obstruct the landlord’s electric charging spot or the passageway to other units, this leaves only the spot in front of the space by the white door. This is not allocated to us and is available on a first come first served basis.

4. Cars must drive away

The car must drive away within 24 hours, or by start of business the next day (see rule 1), whichever is sooner. If you cannot drive away, please inform the trustees as soon as possible.
The terms of the lease state;
6.16 The parking spaces provided are at the companies discretion and are for parking
only and not storage of immobile vehicles. Any cars shown to be parked in unauthorised
spaces will incur a charge of £20 per day or part thereof.

Whilst some grace period may be applied, it is at the discretion of the landlord. You will be liable to pay this charge should he choose to ask for it, whether in person or via the trustees.

Violation of these terms will result in the return of the blanket ban on car maintenance for everybody!
