How does membership work?

Membership is simple. You pay a monthly subscription, allowing you access to the space during our opening times and any time there is another member in the space. You can choose the monthly subscription cost depending on how often you plan to use the space. However, there is a minimum subscription of £10 per month and a recommended subscription of £30 per month. Alongside a monthly subscription, you will also need to provide us with your name and address as we legally have to keep records of all our members.

How do I become a member?

You can register your interest to become a member through our members area. This will ask you to fill out all of the information needed and sign up to a standing order. You will receive emails explaining what you need to do at each stage of the process and what you can expect. Its really simple and only takes a few minutes. You can do this at home, or one of our membership team can guide you through the process during an open evening.

Do I have to become a member to use the space?

No you don’t need to be a member to use the space. Instead, you can pay £7 every time you visit. You will also only be able to use the space during our open evenings and will be restricted from using some of the larger tools, so the best route is to become a full member.

What is a keyholder?

Once you have become a member, you can request to become a keyholder. This means that you can have 24/7 access to the space whenever you like! There are some restrictions on which tools can be used late at night as we do like to keep our neighbours happy but it means you can keep working on your project whenever suits you. It also means that you will be responsible for opening and closing the space properly. If you are interested in becoming a keyholder, you can contact trustees at [email protected] We like to have lots of keyholders so that the space is open as often as possible.

What else is part of membership?

As a member run organisation, we rely on members to help and support each other with developing knowledge, completing projects and contributing to make the space the best it can be. We hold monthly membership meetings, giving every member an opportunity to share their view on events, plans and development of the space. There is an agenda for these meetings which is decided by the members, giving opportunity for proposals to be made for any new ideas or plans that would make the space even better. We also hold monthly “Hack the Space” days – An opportunity for us all to come together and do a specific activity that will benefit the space and its members. This is always the last weekend of the month and alternates between Saturday and Sunday.

As part of your membership you get access to all the tools and materials at the space. Some of the specialist tools require a specific induction, but most of the tools can be used after your initial workshop induction. You also get use of the members storage area, which allows you to store materials and projects at the space. Please see the members storage policy for more info.
